My first trip OS was to the USA via Kuala Lumpur. It was rough as guts crossing the ITCZ and fucking freaky watching the wing tips of a 747 flapping up and down about 2 metres. Fark!!

An Airbus operated by Yemen's state carrier is reported to have crashed with nearly 150 onboard.

LATEST
A Yemeni airport official says a plane from Yemen's national carrier bound for the Indian Ocean country of Comoros has crashed in the ocean.

An Airbus A330-200 operated by Yemen's state carrier Yemenia Air that took off from Paris with 147 passengers on board has disappeared between Yemen and Comoros, an airport source here said on Tuesday.

The plane was going to Moroni, on the main island of Grand Comore.

The official said most of the passengers on the plane were believed to be Comoros residents returning from Paris.

The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The Comoros is an archipelago of three main islands situated about 2,900km south of Yemen, between Africa's southeastern coast and Madagascar.

It is not yet known if there were any survivors.

And Airbus is leading by a mile although it only takes 1 large A/C to push these stats right up.

True... but I think it's worth pointing out Airbus is almost beating all other manufacturers, combined.

That, and the Ruski's aren't winning!

Actually the Yemenia Air crash into the sea is included in those stats (from what I can tell).

That is two major plane crashes. And both involve trips to/from France and an airbus plane.

The Beeb is reporting it as an A310 - not that it changes much for the poor buggers on board. They also say one survivor has been found ...

I was flying BNE-SYD last night (on a QF B737) and they announced that the normal news service "would not be shown". Do you think they wanted to avoid mentioning this latest incident? That was my first thought but then I remembered that Qantas has its own sanitised Ch Nein news anyway.

Yep, it's an A310.

Not sure what's in and what's out here. Fokker is down for 24, which sounds right for a TNI-AU F27 that went in at Bandung this year. However, Lockheed does not rate a mention for the 102 poor souls who died in a C130 crash in Java.

So I don't know if military transports are in or out. Anyone know of another Fokker crash or crashes that might have a body count of 24?

Did these stats come from Boeing by any chance?

I think military is out of that list, from memory.
