They are all pretty good Simon.
The one of the Mrs, your camera thought it had enough light due to the backlighting. Now you need to figure out how to do it without it being an accident. I have yet to be able to get it the way I want it.
If you don't have a cable release or remote control for the camera, if you using a tripod, use the camera's self timer so that you can avoid movement from depressing the shutter. I learnt this the hard way. Here is the overall shot. (30 seconds at F/29, ISO 100)
Here is the detail showing what happened after I pressed the shutter.
Car's don't usually bounce like that unless it's an earthquake.
After that, I simply used the self timer until I bought a Cable relase.

Last winter after a day of roadgeeking I tried time exposures from the overbridges at Woodford, Linden and Blaxland and only Blaxland gave me enough light on my point and shoot.
I would like to try Linden with some long exposure time again this winter - need to see if I can get enough light to illuminate the sandstone cuttings.

Both the bridges at Woodford should be ok, but maybe not for a P&S as you say. I did take a few of the GWH looking up the hill from the station platform in the early hours with a P&S and they came out ok.
Linden is quite dark, and without being able to set the shutter speed, you wouldn't get much. I'll have to go and try that myself.
In answer to your question, these above were taken at the "New" Shell Corner or the section of raod that bypasses the old Shell Corner. I stood next to (I think it's called) The Aunty Joan Cooper Bridge.

Some more Slow Shutter shots of mine.
Wollongong Harbour. 20 sec, F/3.5, ISO100 Taken looking towards Sydney. White light trail to right of Lighthouse is an aircraft taking off from Mascot.
North East Pylon, Sydney Harbour Bridge 8 sec, F/3.5, ISO100. Lines in photo are Birds flying around the pylon and lights. Someone said the birds are there to collect the insects that come to the lights. All I know is it was dangerous to be standing there that night.
Fireworks on Sydney Harbour, reason unknown. 6 sec, F/5.6, ISO100. While taking photos of the birds and the Quay, we heard Fireworks from the direction of Watson's Bay. Blurring is because I didn't use cable release or self timer.

Thanks Steve - I like the 'Gong shot in particular also. I have been using the self-timer, but the tripod is a lightweight one, so still some judder just from the shutter movement.

I know this thread is for anything, but this is a rail site (sort of) so, errrrm, fuck it.
Y112 at Echuca 20 June 2000. This is one of me first 'time exposures'. Taken with a small Pentax instamatic. Think I held the shutter open (physically) for about 45 seconds.
Taken with the same camera, same place (Echuca). R761 banked in the goods road with Y112 in the background. Queens Birthday Weekend, 2001.
T413 at SRHC depot, Seymour. Taken with a Pentax MZ60 SLR. Think the exposure was about 1.5mins. Late 2006.
K160 at Maldon during the "Steam on Show" weekend.
J515 stabled off the turntable at Maldon. Same weekend as the above photo.
The next day sees J515 waiting to enter the loco depot area after a days work. 1 second exposure.
J515 about to enter the pit road at Maldon. This was taken with my old Pentax instamatic with black and white film to make it look like it's back in the '50's or 60's. Again it's a 1 second exposure.

Filtertron, as you show us, steam is an excellent candidate for long exposures - the steam goes from being clouds to this magical mist - some great shots there, thanks for sharing them .

Now, show me yours!
I was saving this until I could guess a Where is it, but since I never do,
here 'tis.
poxy 2Mb point and shoot, but since work lets me use it for free it'll do for now. Won't tell you how many times I had to try and hold the camera still for most of the time with just a little wave of the hand at the end to get the blurred bit! Hah.
